Pioneer VSX-33 Receiver

Very Easy Set-up
As an informed consumer of electronics you will found the manual to be pretty clear and Pioneer does try to explain the details of possible scenarios at the bottom of almost every page in the footnotes. Hook up was easy and it sounds great, build quality is excellent. The new remote-style as a modification of Pioneer’s remote is almost perfect from a few years ago, and easy to use. This is a great product, set-up is easy if you are only little bit technical as well as the sound and picture are great.

The other cool features are tons of HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs. Also, you will found anything in, S-Video, Composite or Component and it will upconvert and push it out to the TV, that really cut down on the mess of cables. The receiver detects which component is running and automatically turns on.

Movies sound perfect, feel explosions real as it happens in the house. Setup is relatively easy , has auto MCACC setup which does auto calibre by itself. It has upscale capability with different resolutions such as 1080p,1080i. Playing movies and music from there, its excellent receiver with its affordable price. This is a great receiver and you will not be disappointed.

Pioneer’s Free iPhone App Turns into a Powerful Control Center
Pioneer’s iControlAV (downloaded separately via Apple’s App Store) gives you total control over your home theater sound. With controls for master and per-zone volume, sound fields, and more, you’ve got a simple but powerful way to adjust your home theater sound any way you like.

The iPhone and iPod touch device’s accelerometer are used to control balance, bass and dialogue–no confusing sequence of remote buttons to remember, just tilt and maneuver your Apple portable device until the sound is right where you want it.

PC Web Browser Control and Full-Color On-Screen GUI
Pioneer Elite VSX-33 Receiver let you connect a USB keyboard so you can rename stations for radio and Internet radio, network settings, and more. For further control, the VSX-33 includes PC control software, so you can control your home theater right from your PC or laptop. Not only that, there’s a full-color on-screen GUI for use with the included preset remote, so you can make guided adjustments to your home theater sound. There are more ways to control your Pioneer VSX-33 than just your iPhone.

Release Your Smartphone’s Music
For wireless connectivity, add a Pioneer AS-BT100 Bluetooth adapter (sold separately) to release your music from your iPhone, iPad®, Blackberry®, or Android® smartphone as well as other Bluetooth-enabled sources like laptops. And the VSX-33′s Advanced Sound Retriever AIR technology restores critical audio data that is often removed from compressed audio formats, especially when transferred via Bluetooth.

Studio-quality Sound with Advanced MCACC
Pioneer’s exclusive Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC) provides a near studio-quality, multi-channel listening experience that customizes each of the VSX-33’s 7.1 sound channels specifically to your listening environment.

Additionally, the Auto Level Control feature can equalize volume level differences between tracks playing from a portable audio device or commercials during television programming so the volume can be enjoyed at a consistent level–no more jarring “blare” when switching audio sources.

Direct Energy Amplification for Maximum Fidelity, Plus Advanced Jitter Reduction
Pioneer’s own Advanced Direct Energy amplifier design and Power Train construction concentrates all amplifier channels to minimize the amp’s “power loop”. This efficient design, plus the addition of an Advanced Jitter Reduction integrated circuit, reduces noise interference from other circuits to further increase fidelity to the input source. Less interference and less jitter means even clearer sound and increased accuracy.

Pioneer Elite VSX-33 Review

Here is one of the honest Pioneer Elite VSX-33 review By Michael P. Wadden that already purchase and use this unit.

VSX-33 Five Star Wonderful receiver for the money!
This is a great receiver for what I paid. I originally bought a YAMAHA and I spent two weeks tweaking the sound and failed to get rid of that cheap “boomy” bass. Not to mention the Yamaha lacked any “low mid-range” presence/quality. So I returned the Yamaha product and coincidentally my parents gave me an old vintage Pioneer Progression IV component stereo system they bought 25-30 years ago…back in the true hi-fi war days. To my delight it sounded so good that I decided to try a Pioneer receiver and purchased the VSX-33. This unit made my Polk Audio TSI 300s come alive…and with the VSX-33 I was able to bi-amp them. I’m not really sure if the bi-amping made a difference because I hooked it up that way from day one…..and was so astounded at the clarity of the sound versus the Yamaha RX-V567 that I didn’t want to change a damn thing. (And I was so irritated with the Yamaha I tried everything you could imagine)

I did some research regarding the specifications between the two to find that the Yamaha receiver can have as much as 10% total harmonic distortion at full power (which is clearly identifiable to the human ear). Where as this Pioneer unit only reaches .08% at full power…and its commonly accepted that the human ear cannot detect distortion below 1%. So yes, the unit has incredible sound…I never have attempted turning it up all the way as I’m pretty confident its powerful enough to either cause permanent hearing loss (in my small room) or speaker damage. I’m not looking to shake the neighbors house although I know it can.

On a side note I also use this with a Velodyne Minivee (IN MY OPINION, sealed subs are the way to go for a more accurate, musical bass that isn’t BOOMy) and the auto-calibration microphone that comes with the VSX-33 tuned the frequencies between my 5 polk speakers and the velodyne so that you really aren’t distracted by any single speaker being overly loud or powerful. The bass frequencies blend perfectly with the towers and surrounds. You just feel like you’re in the room the music or movie was recorded in. I guess what I’m saying is that it sounds balanced…not too much treble…not too much bass….you get my drift. “Too much of anything is never a good thing”

This unit is loaded. Free app for my iPhone/iPad to control it wireless (the app could be better though). iPod adapter included (unlike most competitors that nickel and dime you for everything). 3 zones, 2 hdmi. GUI interface, 9.1 surround. And a well written and detailed manual (Do not expect it to be written like “Microsoft Windows for Dummies”….if you are buying a $700 receiver that is loaded then don’t knock it for being ‘complicated’….educate yourself. As an informed consumer of electronics I found the manual to be pretty clear and Pioneer does try to explain the details of possible scenarios at the bottom of almost every page in the footnotes. The things they thought to include showed me someone put some real thought into it.

One small gripe…and almost negligible because the sound is so superior I will give them this compromise (i.e. YOU CANT HAVE IT ALL)……is that if you choose bi-amp setup…you are restricted to 5.1 sound and from what I can figure…no amplified sound to zone 2/3. There are only 9 speaker terminals…so with bi-amp 5.1 I’ve used 7 but am not using the last two. Still not sure if theres a way to enable those unused terminals to play 2 channel sound, for lets say, my in-ceiling speakers around the house. But I mean you have to be realistic. Asking one amplifier to be your everything isn’t going necessarily provide you enough power or quality sound. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

Highly recommended. Would buy again in a heart beat.
